What is the Generation of Computer
Generation of computer terminology cames, due to frequent changes in the technology of computers.
Each generation of computers is the result of development in technology. Initially, the term generation was used to differentiate between different hardware technologies. but nowadays, generation includes both hardware and software which are very important to building a computer system.
How Many Generation of Computer
Till date, Total 5 generations of computers are known and each generation has evolved, due to the continuous improvement in technology and changes in features such as speed, storage capacity, cost, reliability, power consumption, portability, etc.
All these changes in computer technology, have resulted in the development of increasingly more powerful, smaller, cheaper, and more efficient and reliable computing devices.

First Generation of Computer
Computers from 1946 to 1959 are called first generation computers. Vacuum tubes were used as processors in first generation computers.
The vacuum tube was a drain of glass. First-generation computers produced a lot of heat due to the use of vacuum tubes.
Also, they were very large in size, due to this, it was very difficult to maintain them. many people are required to operate the first generation computer.
First generation computers used magnetic drums as storage. In this generation of computers, punch cards were used for input and machine language was used as a programming language.

Second Generation of Computer
Computers from 1959 to 1965 are called second generation computers. In the second generation computers, transistors were used instead of vacuum tubes as processors, which caused the second generation computers to be slightly smaller than the first generation computers. But they were still much larger than today’s computers.
Magnetic cores were used as storage in second generation computers. In this generation of computers, assembly language was used as a programming language because assembly language came in this generation.

Third Generation of Computer
Computers from 1965 to 1971 are called third generation computers. In third generation computers, integrated circuits were used instead of transistors as processors.
The integrated circuit was built by J. S. Kilbi. IC (integrated circuit) is also called LSI (Large Scale Integration).
Fortran, Cobol, BASIC, C, etc. programming languages were invented during the third generation Computer, so Fortran, Cobol, BASIC, C was used as a programming language in third generation computers.

Fourth Generation of Computer
Computers from 1971 to 1980 are called fourth generation computers. Microprocessor / VLSI (Very Larg Scale Integration) was used as a processor in fourth generation computers instead of integrated circuits.

- PUP 11
- IBM 4341
- STAR 1000
Fifth Generation of Computer
Computers from 1980 to now are called fifth generation computers. ULSI (Ultra large scale integration) has been used as a processor in fifth generation computers instead of VLSI (Very large scale integration).
Artificial intelligence came in the fifth generation of computers. The time to come is artificial intelligence. You must have heard the name of Google Assistance.
